Royal Decree 339/2021, of 18 May, regulating safety and pollution prevention equipment for vessels, was published today.

This regulation establishes the safety equipment that must be carried by both Spanish and foreign-flagged vessels sailing in Spanish waters and owned by persons resident or domiciled in Spain. This rule will enter into force on 1 July.

But what is interesting to highlight in today's note is the Second Final Provision which includes the long-awaited return of British recreational qualifications and according to which from tomorrow British qualifications will be accepted in order to charter Spanish recreational vessels and to obtain authorisation from the Maritime Authority to operate (not as a professional) a vessel under the Spanish flag.
